Celebrating Diversity and Strengthening Our Culture of Inclusion

Regina Fennell – Strategic Business Program Manager, CCI

Each April, in honor of Celebrate Diversity Month, I take the opportunity to both look back and look ahead—at my own professional journey, at McCormick’s commitments to diversity and at the collective power we have to build an even more supportive, inclusive culture where we work and live.

Since the recent launch of McCormick’s African American Ambassador Network (AAAN) 2018 theme—Change Myself, Change My World—we’ve furthered our commitment to inspiring personal pride and mutual empowerment across the company. AAAN—an Employee Ambassador Group (EAG) dedicated to fostering and inspiring a culture where African Americans are valued partners and ambassadors of business excellence within the company—is bringing this theme to life by harnessing our diverse insights and experiences across our teams to support each other in our personal and professional development. We spend most of our daily lives in the workplace, and our impact and performance here directly connects to how we feel about ourselves, our colleagues and our communities. As the Chair of AAAN, I take pride in the way we’ve woven diversity and inclusion into McCormick’s culture and operations.

No matter who we are or where we come from, celebrating and enhancing our unique qualities is at the core of our personal and professional success. In February, AAAN kicked off a yearlong celebration of African American culture and contributions and in March, our Women’s International Network (WIN) built upon this conversation about inclusion and equality. As the year continues, all our EAGs will focus on themes that are critical to diversity and inclusion: career development, career pathing and advancing mentorship within the company.

This Celebrate Diversity Month, I am more energized and optimistic than ever. I’m excited about the progress we’ve made, and I look forward to the even greater impact our EAGs will make by partnering with local organizations, helping our members grow and maintaining a strong sense of community in the workplace.
