International Women's Day 2018

This International Women’s Day, We WIN With Progress

Jan Bonnet, Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) Category Head – Packaging

On this International Women’s Day (IWD), we join together to #PressforProgress. We aim to inspire and support women in realizing their aspirations and to demonstrate the role inclusive corporations play in the drive for women’s equality. As I reflect on the meaning of women’s empowerment, I think about what makes each woman unique. I think about the way diversity adds value to our organization through employee empowerment and talent recruitment. And I am proud to be part of a global company that has long pressed for progress by, valuing gender equality through the Power of People and committing to do even more.

One of our most important mechanisms for achieving gender equality is McCormick’s Women’s International Network (WIN). With over 500 members around the world in established chapters in the UK, France and the US, WIN focuses on furthering the professional growth and achievement of McCormick’s female colleagues through three pillars: community, members and delivering business value.

As joint Vice-Chair of WIN France, I recently launched our WINtoring pilot scheme, which seeks to connect women for mentoring and networking opportunities. I am so proud of this initiative and believe that providing space for women to discuss their shared experiences and gain insight from one another creates a more effective talent pipeline for the organisation.

Our nearly three-year-old chapter now includes 110 women and men, a gender make-up that has contributed to a more open workplace where dialogue around gender equality happens naturally. We were recently recognized by Les Entreprises pour la Cité for our work and have partnered with the organisation to promote our network externally in the region.

For International Women’s Day, we are celebrating with an informal networking event around the 2018 IWD theme: #PressForProgress. Our partners in the U.S. will be hosting a #PressForProgress webinar, followed by a leadership discussion on women’s workplace empowerment. WIN UK will focus on topics surrounding visions for tomorrow’s world, unconscious bias and the benefits of gender balance.

Our network continues to grow as we welcome the WIN China chapter, which is launching today with an introduction and recruitment session, a guest speaker and a photo contest. As these efforts progress throughout our global community, more chapters of WIN will be created, including WIN Poland, which officially launches in May. However, they celebrate alongside the entire WIN community today with a screening of Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg’s Ted Talk, a discussion and a photo contest.

I am inspired by WIN’s efforts and by McCormick’s broader commitments to gender equality. Today and every day, I am proud to stand with my WIN colleagues and our McCormick leadership team as we continue to empower women in our workforce to achieve their career potential and contributions into McCormick’s culture and leadership.
